A
certain woman… cried to ’Elisha,
saying, ‘Your servant, my husband, is
dead…. A creditor has come to take my
two children to him-self for servants.’
And ’Elisha said to her, ‘…Tell
me, what do you have in your house?’ And
she replied, ‘Your maid-servant has nothing
in the house except a pot of oil.’ And
he said, ‘Go, ask for vessels for yourself…
from all your neighbors—empty vessels—let
them not be few. When you have entered [your
house], shut the door upon yourself and your
sons and pour out into all the vessels. Remove
the full ones.’ And she went from him,
and shut the door upon herself and her sons.
They brought to her, and she poured out [into
them]. And it came to pass, at the filling of
the vessels, that she said to her son, ‘Bring
me another vessel,’ and he said to her,
‘There are no more vessels,’ and
the oil stopped.
