Stand up
and tell your story
Former
felons and common criminals are telling their
stories, what about you and me? Some months
ago, I made the point that when an American
wants to really make money, he/she tells a story.
Many times those stories change lives. Politicians,
Entrepreneurs, Professionals and Criminals,
all turn to writing a book and even get paid
in advance for producing the content. A former
white collar criminal - Jerome Mayne who is
a frequent visitor to our shores delivered a
lecture on Mortgage Crime to St. Lucians during
his last visit. He is the President of Fraudcon
– “Making good decisions better”.
You can visit his promotional website www.fraudcon.com.
Mr. Stephen Pierce who turned around his life
from gangs and being homeless was here two weeks
ago and he also had a story to tell. You can
get his book - Make real money on the Internet
at www.makerealmoneyontheinternet.com and visit
his website www.stephenpierceinternational.com
There is much talk about crime in St. Lucia
but are enough people telling stories of hope.
Are there enough persons willing to become mentors
and are prepared to address gatherings to tell
their stories so that the young people can confidently
say I can do that too and even achieve much
more than the persons telling their stories.
The young people and mature criminals must be
challenged to do better. Where are the opportunities?
Putting food on the table could be a real challenge
these days. In spite of the prevailing global
economic conditions, many are convinced that
St. Lucia fared well over the past 18 months
but we could have done much better by opening
up new avenues of business, especially in the
IT sector.
Home coming 2010 could bring real opportunities
to our shores, if we get members of the Diaspora
to share business experiences with our Entrepreneurs
pointing them to new areas of business. There
are two areas that can benefit our tourism and
other related business/services sectors. We
need to encourage members of the St. Lucian
Diaspora to promote their homeland by appointing
reputable professionals and entrepreneurs among
them as Investment & Tourism Representatives.
A business proposition to launch an Internet
business to promote businesses in St. Lucia
should also be considered. Tourism products
offer a unique opportunity to create a Multilevel
Level Marketing (MLM) company that will put
the world to work – promoting Saint Lucia,
especially since after the BACHELOR TV show.
The budget is around the corner and just maybe
someone will respond to my plea which I have
echoed for many years - that there is need for
the government to take charge of driving Innovation
and Technology. Whatever form this will take
– a lead Ministry or Secretariat? The
time has come for the Government to consider
another meeting of the minds on the Economy.
