Saint Lucia Development Bank Prepares to Commemorate First Anniversary

The Saint Lucia Development Bank is preparing to commemorate its first Anniversary with a week of activities during the week of February 22 – 27, 2010 under the theme - Emerging, Engaging to Shape the Development of our Nation.
The activities will include appearances in the media, the hosting of two luncheon presentations with key note speeches from the Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) – Sir K. Dwight Venner and President of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Dr. Compton Bourne. The week of activities will kick off with a newspaper supplement on the weekend of February 20. The Bank will also be launching its inaugural annual lecture series on issues in the realm of social and economic development. Mr. George Theophilius – Managing Director of Financial Investment and Consultancy Services Ltd (FICS), a pioneer of development banking in the Caribbean, having led the process in establishing the first Saint Lucia Development Bank in 1980, will be presenting the first lecture. The luncheon activities and lecture will be hosted at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Gros-Islet.
The highlight of the week will be the launching of a new product – the Youth Enterprise Equity Fund (YEEF) - a product designed to facilitate young entrepreneurs in obtaining equity financing and the necessary support in creating employment for themselves and other young people in start-up businesses.

 
 

A press launch will be held on Wednesday February 24 at the offices of the SLDB, and a public launch will be held on Friday February 26 at the National Cultural Centre in a joint open-day activity in collaboration with Monroe College.
During the week, the SLDB will also be hosting a meeting of the Association of Development Banks of the Eastern Caribbean (ADBEC), which comprises the development banks from Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, the Commonwealth of Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis and Saint Lucia.
The week ends with a staff appreciation dinner on Saturday February 27, 2010 to honour the staff for their efforts in establishing the platform for a resurgence of the SLDB.
The Saint Lucia Development Bank was officially launched on February 22, 2009 and opened its doors to the public on February 24, 2009.
