ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist, it is my passion for painting that drives me to create art. My favorite medium is acrylic paints because they dry fast. I can therefore keep working for as long as I want, building up the image in layers of broken colour and glazes. My painting method leaves room for discovery, which is what keeps me engaged in the creative process. I mix my colours instinctively, using them to portray my emotional response to the wild and natural beauty of my homeland.
As a painter, I am inspired by the endless variety of shapes and the patterns of light and shadow that occur in nature. Although my paintings are representational, it is the abstract rhythms that attract me to an image; I play with the organic shapes and colour relationships to enhance and direct the visual flow and to create a mood. I enjoy painting with vibrant colour and vivid contrasts to create art that is dramatic, joyful and uplifting. I want to overwhelm the viewer’s senses with beauty.
