LUCELEC Donates To Haiti Recovery Effort

St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) has responded immediately to a call from CARILEC for financial support to a Haiti Recovery Fund. The local power company has donated just over EC$27,000 (US$10,000) to a special fund set up by CARILEC.
CARILEC, the Caribbean Electric Utility Service Corporation, is an association of electric utilities in the Caribbean. Following the earthquake in Haiti, CARILEC immediately sought the support of its 33 member utilities in contributing US$10,000 each towards a CARILEC Haiti Recovery Fund.

The proceeds from this fund will be used to provide monetary and/or materials and equipment contributions to Haiti via a regional or international organization.
In making the donation to CARILEC, LUCELEC’s Managing Director Trevor Louisy said the local power company was ready to provide additional support, such as manpower, to assist in the rebuilding of the electricity infrastructure in Haiti. He added, “We’ve done it in the past when CARILEC members have suffered from natural disasters. Although, the electric utility in Haiti is not a member of CARILEC, we recognise the need and are prepared to do our part to support the utility and the country during the response effort.”
