Feburary 2010
GRANDE INDEPENDENCE

Teachers
and students of the Grande Riviere Secondary
School held nothing back in their celebration
of the nation’s thirty-first anniversary
of Independence. February 19th, last Friday,
was a day filled with song, dance, fashion and
drama.
Parents and other guests were invited to the
very decorated institution, to enjoy a day full
of events, which entailed various teachers and
students of all forms showcasing their talents.
A particular crowd favorite was the reenactment
of cabinet ministers and other important officials.

Alita Martial,
a third former, was the make believe Dame
Pearlette Louisy, while, Tarick Alphonse,
a fifth former, was the nation’s prime
minister. Both students, along with other
impersonators, delighted their fellow students
and onlookers, with elaborate speeches and
performances.
Grande Riviere, located in the Dennery North,
and founded in 2006 is one of the only two
secondary schools in the Dennery Basin.
