‘ICONIC SAINT LUCIANS’ to be launched this March

What began early last year as a 30 profile magazine to commemorate the Independence 30 anniversary milestone, evolved into the production of book chronicling the contributions of 100 Saint Lucians from 1901 to 1979, the year the country attained its Independence.
‘ICONIC SAINT LUCIANS’, due to be launched in a few weeks, is a commemorative promise to be a quality, mini coffee-table book, which will contribute significantly to the recorded history of modern-day Saint Lucia and will pave the way for the professional packaging of more of the available historical data that presently exists at the National Archives.
Researched and produced by Right Angle Imaging Inc, on behalf of the Government of Saint Lucia, under the supervision of Senator Tessa Mangal, ICONIC SAINT LUCIANS was produced with the endorsement and support of the Saint Lucia National Archives. The publication is in two parts. The first carries full-length profiles of 30 national icons that have made defining contributions “to community and country laid the bedrock for that road upon which later generations would journey”. The second part features 70 shorter profiles of distinguished sons and daughters whose notable contributions have also laid a foundation upon which later generations could build.
With the project having started under her watch as Chairperson of the Independence 30 coordinating committee, Minister Mangal describes the project in the context of its value to the documentation of history and the inspiration of future generations.
“We must choose to make a habit of showing appreciation and honour to those who impacted our development and ensure that their contributions are entered in the pages of our recorded history. This serves to bring to later generations and to the wider world a full knowledge of the sterling contributions that have shaped our nation.” Senator Mangal said.

The featured personalities represent sectors such as the Arts, Agriculture, Banking & Commerce, Diplomacy, Education & Teaching, Engineering, Folk & Popular Culture, History & Heritage Conservation, Government & Politics, The Law, Medicine & Nursing, Public Service, Social Work & Community Service, Sports, Trade Unionism, Religion, Tourism and Trade Unionism
With the Preface by national archivist Margot Thomas and the Forward by development specialist and author Cletus Springer, the production team comprised Anthia St. Aimee as main researcher, Sammie Altius as creative leader, Katherine Gash and Guy Ellis as contributing editors, John Robert Lee as Supervising Editor and Barbara Jacobs Small as General Editor.
In her introduction to the work, Ms. Jacobs-Small described the profiles as “necessary tributes marking the milestones and toasting the achievements of our pioneers, while adding new voices to the national salute.”“Right Angle Imaging welcomed the opportunity to add our energy to that salute and to see our vision of a legacy fulfilled in this substantial publication so rich with true-life stories about the intricate process of a nation discovering itself.”
Plans are currently underway by the office of the Prime Minister, to formally launch the publication within the Independence 31 calendar. It is expected that the launch will take place at the official residence of the Prime Minister in early March. The programme is expected to include formal presentations of the book to the featured icons or their representatives and a book signing.
The timing of launch of ICONIC SAINT LUCIANS is also seen as strategic relative to the hosting of the Homecoming celebrations scheduled for July and instrumental to the promotion of national pride.
The commemorative independence publication will also be available for purchase at local bookshops
