Saying Goodbye
Alexandra Grant

Early this week a co-worker at the Voice Publishing Co., Ms Babsie Price, passed away. She is no longer there to respond to my usual “Hi, Price, how are you?” on my arrival at the start of the working day. Her standard response of “Ï am Blessed.” followed by “How is your daughter?” should the response not be favourable, she would always say “Tell her don’t worry, I have her in my prayers.” Suffice to say, Babsie prayed a lot…her faith in God was all consuming.
Of all the comments which I’ve heard from staff members after her passing “Babsie was a Peacemaker”dominate. Her response to any upheaval in the office would have her intervene by literally, physically brushing aside the anger with a few waves of her hand. “Finish with that, finish with that…Life’s too short.” She would say, and somehow, mysteriously her simple gestures have been credited with deterring many an explosive situation.
Babsie was a poet in her own right. The many birthdays and anniversary greetings sent in for publication from friends and relatives who were either lax or unable to express feelings for their loved ones would be turned over to Babsie to “write something nice”.

She had a knack for expressing the appropriate sentiments ending the final verse with the simple and profound,“God bless you”.
In the event that a co-worker was experiencing some level of discontent, Babsie’s advice would be “Just bring everything to the Lord and he will take care of it”.
This is the first time that I’ve experienced the death of a co-worker and despite her calm demeanor, her absence will not go unnoticed.
Ironic too is that the passing of such a silent partner has forced her former co-workers to rethink on the importance of engendering favourable working relationships. The realization of the amount of time spent in each other’s company is sometimes more than we spend at home with our families therefore an effort should be made to make these as comfortable anD stress free as possible.
Bye for now Miss Price. I am certain that your faith has finally transported you to your anticipated destination
