Power Struggle Problems within Government
St. Lucians,
last week, watched with interest the internal politics played
out within the Cabinet of Ministers, as a group of eight ministers,
dubbed the “super eight” by the media, appears
to have outmanoeuvred Prime Minister Sir John Compton in a
diplomatic tussle that ended with China suspending diplomatic
relations with St. Lucia and Taiwan re-establishing diplomatic
ties with St. Lucia.
ONE
speaks on Taiwan/China affair
The Organization
for National Empowerment (ONE) wishes to express its dismay
at the current situation in which the country finds itself
because of the mishandling of the China/Taiwan diplomatic
blunder by the current UWP Administration. The party is of
the opinion that the severing of ties by the current Administration
with the People’s Republic of China is the biggest diplomatic
and political blunder by the government and if not reversed
will have serious implications for the political and international
relations viability of the government and the country as a
whole.

This
belly ache has nothing to do with politics but the pain is
nonetheless severe. However, there are many important issues
present on our island which should be of concern to us but
which we simply ignore. (By the way, here’s a quick
quiz question: How does one know that CWC is over?
Warm
and Friendly Relations
As St. Lucia
joins hands yet again with the Republic of China (Taiwan),
not in any rudimentary fashion, but rather in a deep heartfelt
manner rooted way back in the mid 1980’s, one can’t
help but recognize that St. Lucia, once considered to be self-sufficient
in a number of agricultural products, can no longer lay claim
to that fact.
