This
belly ache has nothing to do with politics but the pain is
nonetheless severe. However, there are many important issues
present on our island which should be of concern to us but
which we simply ignore. (By the way, here’s a quick
quiz question: How does one know that CWC is over?
Warm
and Friendly Relations
As St. Lucia
joins hands yet again with the Republic of China (Taiwan),
not in any rudimentary fashion, but rather in a deep heartfelt
manner rooted way back in the mid 1980’s, one can’t
help but recognize that St. Lucia, once considered to be self-sufficient
in a number of agricultural products, can no longer lay claim
to that fact.

Jazzing
up Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia Jazz.
It seems hardly a year goes by without some conflict surrounding
the event. Like the tourism industry with which it has become
synonymous, the music festival is always compelling Saint
Lucians to weigh its cost against its benefits. Once again,
the country is asking, is it worth changing our way of life,
abandoning our very culture, doing irreversible harm to our
natural history and environment, for the sake of a few tourists
dollars?

Statement
by Dr. Vaughan Lewis on Recognition of China
The time
has come for good sense to prevail in this matter of diplomatic
recognition. It has been going on since the General Election
and must now be quickly brought to a conclusion for the long-term
good of our St. Lucia.
In 1996-1997, I was myself Prime Minister and Minister of
Foreign Affairs, when Taiwan was still the entity recognized
by the government of St. Lucia.
But now, ten years later, we cannot impose the conditions
of yesterday, on the realities of today’s changed world.
Digicel
- Irresponsible or false marketing?
Digicel offered
me a promotion via text on Tuesday, 1st of May offering double
the value my first top up between ‘to-day and Wednesday
2nd of May’. However, when I did top up my account on
Wednesday the 2nd of May, this promise was ignored. On speaking
to two customer service agents at Digicel it was explained
to me that Digicel had decided to double my top up made on
Monday, the day before the promotion was sent to me via text
message. By the way, this particular top up was significantly
less that the one made during the promotional period.
