Bousquet, St. Lucia's External Affairs Minister at exactly
10:20a.m.Monday, in the conference room of his Ministry signed
a Joint Communiqué with James Chih-Fang Huang, Taiwan’s
Foreign Affairs Minister, a move that sealed the re-establishment
of diplomatic relations between the two countries and increased
the wrath of China, which for months has been warning St.
Lucia against doing just that.

Unions Warn Government
Trade Unions
on the island on Tuesday made clear to Government that any
review of the yet to be enacted Labour Code will not be done
at the expense of the workers of this country. Further, as
trade unions, they are prepared to revert to whatever weapon
that is in their arsenal to prevent government from withdrawing
any of the gains workers have that are embedded in the draft
document called the Labour Code that was passed in the House
of Assembly under the previous administration late last year.

Six steel –pan
groups participated in the 5th Annual Panorama Competition
held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture
in conjunction with The Cultural Development Foundation this
past Sunday at the grounds of the National Cultural Centre
at Barnard Hill.

age 39 of Chase Gardens, Castries, is the island’s latest
road accident victim. About 2:15pm on Tuesday the 24th of
April 2007, motor truck registration number: TE 2985, driven
by Kenty Williams of La Bayee, Bexon quarter of Castries and
motor omnibus registration number: PB 2248: driven by Andre
Etienne of Chase Gardens collided along the Dennery bypass
road.

General Commends Volunteers
Governor
General Dame Pearlette Louisy has added her voice to the many
showering praise on volunteers who served at the ICC Cricket
World Cup West Indies 2007 matches in Saint Lucia. Dame Pearlette
joined volunteers on Tuesday May 1, as they were officially
recognised for their work during the international sporting
event. Almost a thousand Saint Lucians signed up for the National
Volunteer Programme (NVP) in 2006,

Lucia Distillers Escapes Fiery End
An early morning
fire at the St Lucia Distillers caused extensive damage to
the facility, according to officials of the Fire Service.
Senior fire officer Hilton Oculien says the country was saved
from a major disaster, as fire fighters were able to control
the fire and restrict it to the main administrative and warehouse
building.
