China, Taiwan respond to announcement

As St. Lucians grapple with the news that Government will establish full diplomatic relations with Taiwan, the Chinese Government, which has consistently said Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, urges Government to bear in mind the fundamental interests of the two countries, the one China policy and the principles enshrined in the communiqué on the establishment of China-St. Lucia diplomatic relations issued in 1997.

Taiwanese Response to Gov’t decision

Affairs of Taiwan / ROC hereby wishes to state that Taiwan welcomes the announcement made in the Parliament of St. Lucia on 24th April, 2007 by the Foreign Minister of St. Lucia, the Honourable Rufus Bousquet reflecting that “the overwhelming consensus within Cabinet is for the renewal of full diplomatic relations with Taiwan and at the earliest possible opportunity”. The Ministry is also pleased to note that the above announcement has been endorsed

NCF Mini-telethon

The National Community Foundation (NCF) hosted its fifth Annual Telethon on Sunday April 15th 2007 at the Pigeon Island National Landmark. The Telethon is the Foundation’s biggest fundraiser and for the second consecutive year, Telecommunications Provider, Digicel, was the main sponsor of the event. Although the NCF expressed satisfaction with the level of support received from the corporate sector and the general public with respect to pledges, concern was expressed about the late commencement of the televising of the event. This, the Foundation believes had an effect on the level of participation of potential contributors.

Music superstars attract thousands

It was a scene out of the heyday of Splash and The Lime, as thousands flocked into Rodney Bay over three nights to revel in the atmosphere created by the staging of the Rodney Bay Music Bash. Newcomers St. Mary’s College will be one of five Junior Steel band sides seeking to dethrone defending Junior Panorama Champions Digicel Pantime this Sunday April 29th. That’s when the National Junior Panorama Competition takes place at the National Cultural Center Grounds from 4:00 PM.

Sailors from the USS Carney Refurbish Fond Benier Park

Sailors from the crew of the USS Carney, volunteered part of their shore leave to refurbish the Fond Benier Park in Soufrieres.

Rhythm & Spice

Chefs and other Senior Officials of the tourism industry converged on the Pigeon Island National Park to inspect the grounds where the St Lucia Hotel & Tourism Association will be staging Rhythm & Spice this weekend. The industry officials met at the site to inspect the grounds and to give each participant the opportunity to select their favourite location from where they will exhibit their skills at the showcase.
