This
year’s carnival, Too little too late?
Well, there’s
no more team to rally ‘round, and the jazz line-up is
all but settled. So, what’s happening with carnival?
It’s no secret that the Minister for Tourism wants carnival
to be a rousing success, meaning, that the event must be bigger,
better organized, financially viable and more creative than
before. How is this to be done?
The
Falling Highway
Over the last
few months I have had to ask questions about the way we give
contracts to people who are supposed to be experts at building
roads or otherwise. Questions I would like to ask are simple
and short. What are their credentials? What is their past
history? Where do they come from? Have we checked their work
background from other countries in which they have worked?
Above all how competent are they?

Debate
over China
THE EDITOR:
As the Debate over China/Taiwan continues to occupy the minds
of so many St. Lucians, not tuned to Foreign Affairs, I wish
to comment, on the hypocrisy, surrounding this issue. We have
just come out of an election campaign, which polarized this
small nation of ours, and now, instead of focusing on uniting
our country, we are once again fighting each other over an
issue totally foreign to our people.
Virtues
training needed for Mini-bus drivers
Despite
the many complaints leveled at mini-bus drivers, passengers
continue to receive many insults from mini-bus drivers.
One Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. I boarded a bus (Route
1A), from Rodney Heights to Gros-Islet proper. On arrival
at my destination, the driver stopped in the middle of the
road at the corner of Dauphin Street and Bridge Street, making
way for another mini-bus to turn. I did not realize that he
had stopped for passengers to disembark. He then uttered “You
reach Gros-Islet already!” |
