Following
the successful staging of the Indepen-dence Games on February
17th, the St. Lucia Athletics Association will tomorrow Sunday
2nd March 2008 be host to a record 532 athletes including
a contingent from the neighboring islands of St.Vincent and
the Grenadines at the George Odlum National Stadium.

Junior Tennis Tournament
Stacey
Roheman and Julia D’Auvergne emerged as the most outstanding
players as forty of St. Lucia’s most promising Juniors
participated in the fourth annual Independence Junior Tennis
Tournament , sponsored by Jeffrey and Jeffrey Agency for Nemwil.

were filled with excitement and thrills,

Albert Dominates Local Table Tennis
Reigning
OECS Table Tennis Champion Adrian Albert made it two in a
row when he emerged Champion at the just concluded Independence
Day Table Tennis Singles Championships at the Castries Table
Tennis Centre on Sunday, 24th February, 2008. Albert
within a week of his return from studies abroad also won the
National Day Singles title back in December.
Local
Swimmers continue to pile up the Medals Overseas
This
week the St. Lucia Amateur Swimming Association must decide
on the swimmers to be selected for the St. Lucia National
Swim Team to represent the country at the CARIFTA Swimming
Championships. In an attempt to make or improve on
qualifying times, several athletes traveled overseas last
week-end to participate in Long Course 50M pools,

John’s Cup Back for Good
The
St. Lucia Yacht Club this year celebrated Independence Day
February 22nd 2008 by resurrecting the long old traditional
Prime Ministers Cup race which had been initiated many years
ago in the time of the late Sir John Compton. Using
a new trophy for the occasion it was re titled the Sir John
Compton Memorial Trophy with the kind consent of Lady Janice
Compton, 
National
Senior Games
Plans
are moving ahead to host the 5th Annual National Senior Games.
The year’s event is scheduled for Easter Monday, March
24th 2008 at the George Oldum Stadium, Vieux Fort.
The senior Games first held in 2004 is a national event organized
by HelpAge St. Lucia National Council of and for Older Persons.
It has become the biggest sporting attraction to be held at
the stadium,
Endless
Muscles on Show Sunday
After
two previous postponement, finally local bodybuilding enthusiasts
on the island will have something of interest to cheer about,
when the St. Lucia Bodybuilding Association in conjunction
with Courts St. Lucia Limited, will on Sunday 2nd March at
the National Cultural Centre at Barnard Hill commencing at
7:30 pm stage its first major Championship for 2008.
