GREAT FINAL RESULTS
After
seven weeks of music and pageantry, the curtains on the 2008
Carnival season finally came down last Tuesday. St.
Lucia Carnival 2KGreat, launched on June 1, has seen some
remarkable strides and success this year with the quality
of creativity setting new standards. This season also saw
record numbers of patrons attending the various shows,

Talks Deadlocked
There
has been no solution or conclusion to a long-running dispute
over a new global trade agreement. Ministers from
35 key countries are meeting in Geneva to hammer out a global
deal, which has so far proved elusive. The almost seven-year-old
Doha round of trade liberalization talks, held under the auspices
of the World Trade Organization, is deadlocked.

Lucia’s OJ Simpson
Simon
Marius a former second lieutenant in the Cadet Corps accused
of murdering Trinidadian father of four Pedro Joseph was found
guilty Wednesday by a jury of eleven women and one man. The
week long trial was held before presiding High Court Judge
Kenneth Benjamin. The fatal shooting took place on the road
near Sandy Beach Vieux Fort on 10th July 2006.

Electricity supply upgraded
The
St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) has begun
work on a dedicated 5.5 Megawatt electricity supply to the
Rodney Bay Marina. The upgrading of the supply to
the Marina is necessary to cater for the anticipated increase
in demand for electricity upon the completion of the Rodney
Bay Marina expansion project. 
France
Pleased with St. Lucia
The
French Government is pleased that the Government of St. Lucia
has indicated its willingness to sign the Economic Partnership
Agreement between the European Union and CARIFORUM (a grouping
of Caribbean countries), which will replace the former
preferential trade agreements between Europe and the Caribbean
region.

marred by Violence
What
was supposed to be a happy festive season turned into a nightmare
for Police. According to reports the island has experienced
its twentieth homicide which occurred during the night of
the Caribbean Soca Monarch competition at the Mindoo Phillip
Park in Marchand Castries. The latest victim, identified as
Mc. Cartney Monrose, 
Salvation
Army Throws A Banquet
The
Salvation Army is set to host a gala banquet slated for this
Friday, July 25, 2008 at The Royal by Rex Resorts.
The banquet – an annual fundraising event – was
a concept introduced by the Salvation Army to support its
“Meals on Wheels” programme, as well as other
humanitarian projects. The event is being held to coincide

Homicide so Far
A
28 year old man who was struck in the head with a stone by
another man on 9th July 2008 died Tuesday night in Hospital.
He is now the 19th homicide under investigation by
police so far this year. Aaron Clement of Trois Piton, Castries
never recovered from the coma he fell into after he was struck
on the head during a fight with a man police yesterday said
is mentally challenged.
