When
silence rules
It
has been brought to my attention that certain persons, among
them certain failed banana farmers, have been calling for
me to speak. The idea is that I should break my self
imposed silence and say something to them on the current banana
issue. I have chosen to speak with my pen. Besides, I do not
take hints from crooks and opportunists.
Saint
Lucian Politics Has Lost Its Credibility
Over
the last few months I have been in such a state of despair
about the politics in Saint Lucia that I am seriously considering
not to listen or read anything to do with politics in this
country. Yes, I know that many of you will be saying
what is he talking about, that this is impossible as politics
is everywhere. I therefore humbly agree.
Has
Bin Laden’s 2001 pipe dream complicated the world’s
economy?
Some
seven years ago Bin Laden and his disciples unleashed an unexpected
blow upon the mighty United States of America and while many
of us thought that it was a vicious attack sufficient to unravel
the real wrath of the USA, we are now realising that
this attack was designed not only to hurt the US, but to undermine
the economy.

Persecution
is undoubtedly a curse and a simple reflection upon the bible
and the life of Christ should in fact remind individuals perpetuating
this course need to reflect on their own experiences. Our
former Prime Minister has consistently taken to the airwaves
dramatising the wrongdoings of the various elected and selected
members,
Maco
In
West Indian parlance, Maco is the name given to anyone who
makes a career of minding other people’s business. Most
of the time it has proven to be a most annoying practice but
there are some times when a good Maco can save an entire community.
This weekend as we are all aware is the long awaited carnival
celebrations,
Who
says WASCO is not viable?
Please
permit me some space in your Newspaper to respond to articles
in the print media and statements made on the airwaves over
the last few weeks, which seem to suggest that the
privatization of WASCO was imminent, on the basis that it
is not a viable entity. I beg to strongly differ with the
views expressed in that regard,
Congratulations
Barry George
This year’s junior carnival was phenomenal. Record numbers
of children participated in the event and the costumes were
very impressive…top quality. I would like to
congratulate all the band leaders and persons who contributed
to this significant success. They have revived an event which
recently was on the verge of becoming extinct.
Vieux
Fort Labour Code Meeting
The
George Charles Foundation is continuing its mission of promoting
the Labour Code to all parts of Saint Lucia and facilitating
public dialogue on the issue. To date, the Foundation
has held five town hall meetings in Castries, Soufriere and
Babonneau. There have been repeated calls for a Labour Code
town hall presentation in Vieux- Fort,
ERRATUM
There
are times when even the devil gets into the most meticulously
researched articles printed by a newspaper. It always
baffles those of us in the media when these things happen.
In last Thursday’s issue of The VOICE the devil tried
to derail our front page article. The quotes attributed to
Lynden Long in that article should have in fact been attributed
to Brandon Antoine.
