The
much-anticipated Power Soca finals slated for tonight is expected
to produce quite a lot of excitement and surprises.
The Mindoo Phillip Park will host a cadre of super-hitters
that have set the fans in fast motion this Carnival season.
Defending Power Soca monarch, Kakal, who ran away with the
crown last year with “Blah, Blah, Blah”,

to look at LUCELEC’s Legislation?
A
High level meeting Thursday between Prime Minister Stephenson
King, the Cabinet of Ministers and the Board of Management
of St. Lucia Electricity Services did take place but nothing
concrete appeared to have come out of it. Both sides
presented their positions on the matter, which left Government
with perhaps the only option,

Remember
Jamal? In case you have a memory block as most of us conveniently
do let me remind you. Jamal was weeks into his twelfth
year when he burnt to death. He had been placed in a locked
cell for being “disruptive” at the draconian Boys
Training Centre. The horrible unforgivable incident happened
on the night of November 25th 2005.
Hess
to receive lands for oil Refinery
The
actual transfer of lands from Government to Hess Oil Refinery
for commencement of the proposed oil refinery project will
soon be completed. Prime Minister Stephenson King
made this disclosure this week in response to a question by
this reporter regarding the much touted project slated to
be built at Cul-De-Sac by the Hess Corporation at a cost,

Supports Panorama
True
to its promise to continue sponsoring St Lucia’s national
events, Cable & Wireless is providing more support for
carnival, this time to the St Lucia National Steel Bands Association.
C&W has provided the Association with a sponsorship
contribution of $50,000 in cash and telecommunications support
to assist with the staging of this year’s National Panorama
Championship.

Friday
July 4th (last week Friday), St. Lucia was the recipient of
a singular honour as, at the behest of the US Ambassador to
the Eastern Caribbean, the frigate USS Simpson was
assigned to come here in order that we could participate in
the USA’s most important annual event, the Independence

Entrance results out
The
Ministry of Education has released the results of the 2008
Common Entrance Examinations. Of the three thousand,
two hundred and twenty three candidates who wrote the examinations,
only one hundred and nine candidates were unassigned. Candidates
are deemed unassigned if their average composite scores do
not fall within the range of scores,
