Luther King’s dream or ole time America?
My
previous commentaries on Barack Obama’s candidature
for the Presidency of the United States have made it clear
that I am sceptical about his winning. I am now even
more sceptical despite his de facto defeat of Hillary Clinton
for the nomination of the Democratic Party. This is not because
I don’t want him to win. I firmly believe that his election,

Can Land Degradation Destroy St. Lucia?
As
we celebrated “World Day to Combat Desertification”
on the 17th June, 2008 it is important that we reflect on
this year’s theme “Combating land degradation
for sustainable Agriculture”. This is fitting
to the backdrop of escalating global food prices and a renewed
emphasis locally, to increase agricultural production in an
effort to bolster food security.

I
was genuinely honoUred by the award of OBE. My ego was flattered
and I will bask in the warm glow for a long time.
On deeper reflection, in the still time that I give myself
to commune with my spirit, I realized that I have achieved
this with the help of many others. This award is to be shared
with them - my family and friends through their support, all
those who have worked together with me on projects,
Taking
Stock of Fatherhood (Part4)
Research
continues to reinforce the notion that children benefit from
having playful fathers. One study in Germany several
years ago examined specific ways in which fathers and mothers
cultivate close attachments with their children during the
early years, and which of those early parental practices lead
to deeper, long-term attachments during later stages of childhood.

Heroes

Before
making his inspiring speech, CARI-COM Youth Ambassador, Nintus
Magre, artfully delivered a rendition of TC Brown’s
‘Where are they now’? Though just the
chorus was sung, the words expressed hit home and were very
fitting for the occasion as it was one to recognize the nation’s
own heroes. Also in attendance at the Student of Heroes Gallery

Crimes
against people
“Crime:
an act (or sometimes a failure to act) that is deemed by statute
or by the common law to be a public wrong and therefore punishable
by the state in criminal proceedings…”
Further to the definition provided above, crime also tends
to have an immoral component: a crime is doing something that
is considered not just against the law but may also be against
morality.
US
Sailors visit local school
If
one had been walking along the Darling road last Wednesday
afternoon, the riot of noises emitted from the Methodist Primary
School could not be ignored. Even more noticable
were the uniformed gentlemen prettying the school’s
outside wall with a fresh coat of red paint. Fortunately,
there was no crime to report. Of course if an act of charity
is a crime then so be it.
