2007.
A Brief Review
As
2007 came to close, and well into 2008, one has been repeatedly
bombarded from every media house with the events which the
presenters and their guests believed impacted this island
most in 2007. I can’t recall any previous year
being so thoroughly examined in retrospect, by the local media
or indeed by either of the political parties and others of
influence.

St. Lucians for International Soca Monarch
Final
preparations are being made for the semi-finals of the International
Power and Groovy Soca Monarch Competition which takes place
at the Arima Velodrome in Trinidad this Sunday. A
record number of four semi finalists from St. Lucia have made
it this year. They are Road March king of St. Lucia Ricky
T., Groovy Soca Monarch Teddyson, Marianne and Piper. 
Scores
of residents benefit from La Tourney & Pierrot Road improvement
Residents
of La Tourney, Vieux Fort have begun benefiting from improved
road access as the National Development Corporation (NDC)
looks to conclude works on Phase Three (3) of the La Tourney
development. The eight hundred thousand dollar ($800,000)
project makes available approximately thirty residential lots
(30) and involved the construction of roads, 
Media
scores low marks for ARC
The
General Manager of Rodney Bay Marina Mr. Cuthbert Didier has
lamented the “lukewarm” response of the local
media to coverage of various events during last month’s
Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC). In assessing
the latest Atlantic Crossing by 235 yachts to St. Lucia, Didier
said that the lack of local media support and coverage had
stood out like a sore thumb.

or no seal?
In
earlier articles, we have learnt that there has been a fusion
of roles for the legal practitioner in the Caribbean. We
have adopted the ways of the Americans in this regard, and
are simply called Attorneys-at-law, legal practitioners or
lawyers. This encompasses being a barrister, solicitor and
notary royal.
Barbados:
A change in government but Barbadian values remain
The
Caribbean island, Barbados, held general elections to choose
a new government on January 15th. The opposition,
Democratic Labour Party (DLP), was elected to office winning
20 of the 30 parliamentary seats and replacing the Barbados
Labour Party which had formed the government for 14 years.
