On
January 11, 2008, the students and teachers of the Montessori
Centre were gathered on the school grounds. When
a young student was asked why, he said, “We are here
to give the food to the poor.” The general consensus
among the recipients was that, “We are not poor.”
Nevertheless, Alyssa Short, a young student addressed an infant
in the arms of its mother,

Offers New Channels
Recently
Cable & Wireless disclosed that it had been holding discussions
with its cable TV network service providers with a view to
increasing the number of channels provided by CableVision
and improving the quality of its programming. This

President visits
Government
of St. Lucia and the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan)
in St. Lucia are pleased to announce that the President of
the Republic of China (Taiwan), H.E. Chen Shui-bian, is today
Tuesday, 15th January leading a delegation to St. Lucia on
a two-day State Visit. Making up the delegation of
over 100 persons are government ministers,

Parliamentarians will not attend the State Banquet on the
occasion of the state visit to Saint Lucia of the President
of Taiwan, Chen Shui-Bian, at Sandals Grande on January 15,
2008. The SLP will not sit, eat and drink with representatives
of a Government who bribed officials of the Government of
Saint Lucia to establish diplomatic relations with Saint Lucia.

assistance to Local Health Initiatives
Wednesday,
January 9, 2008 – A new initiative by St. Lucia’s
Ministry of Health is expected to reduce considerably the
cost of health care on the island. This involves
the setting up of what Health Minister Dr. Keith Mondesir
describes as “Centres of Excellence” designed
to provide surgical procedures as well as post operative care
for patients with major health problems, 
Registry
Relocated
The
new home of the Registry of Civil Status is already bearing
fruit, with the processing of hundreds of certificate applications
in virtual comfort. The Registry’s new location
on Brazil Street is a cut above its old Laborie Street location,
erasing the uncomfortable experiences and discontent of members
of the public, having to stand outside on a line for hours.
