C&W SPOTLIGHTS PAN

Cable & Wireless has, once again used its telephone services directory to honor outstanding St Lucians. The 2008 Services Directory which was unveiled on Thursday features Gregory ‘Shining’ Emmanuel and Augustus ‘Pan’ Andrew. Over the years Shining and Pan have received numerous awards for their contributions to the development of steel band music in St Lucia.

OECS Heads meet in Dominica

Heads of Government of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) will meet in Dominica, January 17th and 18th, with deeper economic integration of the sub-region high on their agenda. Prime Minister Stephenson King is down to address this meeting, it being his first at that forum as a head of government. He is expected to address the meeting’s opening ceremony.

Special Constable Arrested

A Special Police Constable (S.P.C.) serving with the Royal St.Lucia Police Force for the past ten years was charged on Thursday the 10th of January 2008, on four counts of Incest and one of Indecent Assault following an investigation. The incidents occurred between October 2003 and September 2007. He is due to appear in court on Friday the 11th of January 2008 for a bail hearing. His current service status will be reviewed following the court appearance.

World Bank to study Fuel Impact

The Government of St. Lucia will bring in a team from the World Bank to study the impact of fuel prices on St. Lucia as it tries to eliminate total losses of about $19 million due to its subsidization of fuel. It is currently considering three possible ways, from which it plans to choose one, to ensure it would no longer have to continue subsidizing fuel in the immediate future.
