Dr
Dennis Chastanet passed away at St Jude Hospital on February
20, 2008. Dr Chastanet was a qualified Eye Surgeon
who enjoyed a very ambitious medical career. Dr Chastanet
attended the Roman Catholic School and later continued his
studies at St Mary’s College. He was a very keen student
who loved sitting exams and passed his Cambridge Senior on
two occasions,

Sector Undergoes Survey
on
Public Transportation (NCOPT) awaits word from Government
regarding a revision of the rebate on fuel Government promised
to give to minibus owners following the increase in fuel prices,

Increase in stop-over Arrivals
Preliminary
figures released by the St Lucia Tourist Board show that the
number of tourist stopover arrivals increased by 14% to 24,958
visitors in January 2008 compared with 21,887 visitors in
January 2007. This substantial gain in arrivals was
complemented by a 25.4% increase in the number of cruise visitors
to St. Lucia which grew from 81,536 visitors in January 2007,

Security measures regarding traveling with liquids, aerosols
and gels will be in effect at Hewanorra International and
George FL Charles Airports from March 3, 2008. The

His
Majesty, the King of Spain, upon the proposal of the Minister
of Foreign Affairs, has resolved to authorize the incorporation
of Richard Peterkin, who is the Honorary Vice Consul
of Spain in St. Lucia, into the Order of Civil Merit of Spain
and to confer on him, the decoration of this order in the
rank of Commander for the meritorious service rendered in
the interest of the nation.

Building Controversy Revisited
As
the Government of St. Lucia puts the finishing touches on
its plans to acquire the Daher Building at Bois d’Orange
the opposition St. Lucia Labour Party Tuesday revived the
issue that has sparked controversy last year when Government
told the nation of its intentions to purchase the building.

Members
of the Dennery Fishermen Cooperative have signed a petition
requesting the dissolution of its Board of Directors. Suggestions
are that the Board has shirked its responsibility of maintaining
the Gas pumps at the Cooperative, thus creating undue hardship
for those who depend on fishing for their livelihood.

at Home
On
Saturday, 16th of February 2008 about 1:20am, Eli Augustin
of Babonneau, quarter of Castries, was shot in the abdomen
by two masked men who knocked down his door. He was
subsequently taken to the Victoria Hospital, Castries, where
he has since undergone surgery. He is currently in a stable
condition. Investigation is still continuing in the matter

non response from The Ministry of Health to letters written
by the Civil Service Association asking the former to address
certain grievances of workers in certain departments of the
Ministry of Health, the Golden Hope Hospital among other areas
could lead to industrial action come March 18. The

Tuesday 19th February, 2008 all applications for vital records
including Births, Baptisms, Marriages and Deaths for the districts
of Micoud, Vieux Fort, Laborie, Choiseul and Soufriere are
required to be processed at the 2nd District Court Office
in the town of Vieux Fort, from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The
required application fee must be paid on application. The
ministry of justice will continue to review the processes
in order to improve service to the public.
Monster
was Electrocuted
Investigations
into the death of a man previously alleged to have been electrocuted
on an animal farm in Augier Vieux Fort intensified on Wednesday
following the autopsy report, which confirms previously aired
comments of death by electrocution. Thomas Charlemagne
also called “Monster” age 33 of Cantonement, Vieux
Fort was found dead near a fowl cage,
