Are
We A Sovereign State?
With
our twenty-ninth anniversary of Independence fast approaching
I am still at wits’ end and confused to say the least
as to whether we are a sovereign state or not? I
have pondered over this issue for many years that suddenly
it has become an obsession in my mind.

After
forty nine years Fidel Castro throws in the sponge and leaves
the Caribbean Island of Cuba confused. Confused in
the sense that 11 million people are relatively well educated
but at the same time enjoying a standard of living not in
keeping with countries less fortunate than Cuba. 
Culture
of Greed
It
is no surprise that the effects of the price hike of oil has
reared its ugly head in our young and struggling democracy,
and with this rise in fuel has also come what I observe as
a rise in the greed of our people. It now seems as
if almost over night the prices of almost all goods in every
Supermarket, Shop and Roadside tray has gone up well beyond
the reach of the average St. Lucian.

On
the sidewalk? Come on!
I
am not a frequent visitor to La Clery, but after an absence
of a few months, I was pleasantly surprised during a recent
visit, to see the new side-walks and other improvements in
the area. I was again in the area on Sunday, February
10, 2008, and saw, to my utter dismay, a new kiosk built on
one of the new side-walks. The building has windows, a door
and a well built galvanized roof. 
Why
not at St. Jude’s
I
want to express my family’s frustration and annoyance
with the situation at St. Jude Hospital in Vieux Fort. My
61 year old father requires surgery but is unable to have
it done at St. Jude’s. The reason we have been given
is that due to financial problems there is a lack of supplies
which are only being used for emergency surgery. Since my
father’s condition is not considered an “emergency”,

Fire
NDC Executive Chairman
The
Saint Lucia Labour Party has read with considerable interest,
the story entitled “NDC: Disturbing Questions, No Answers”,
in Thursday’s issue of the Star Newspaper. This
expose, follows an earlier story in the same newspaper. Today’s
expose has clearly shocked many Saint Lucians. The minister
for the National Development Corporation, Senator Ausbert
d’Auvergne,
