Testing For Prison Officers?
Essential
Services employees might be subject to drug testing in the
not too distant future. Thanks, to Director of the
Bordelais Correctional Facility, Hilary Herman, who has revealed
his intentions to push for legislation to introduce mandatory
drug testing of these workers. Herman acknowledges that there
are individuals who may be users of hard drugs (marijuana
and cocaine), 
Work
starts at Rodney Bay Marina
Work
has started on the multi million dollar upgrading and expansion
project at the Rodney Bay Marina and the developers say the
first set of new docks will be ready for this year’s
Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) in December. Two
dredging machines and a number of barges are among the numerous
pieces of heavy equipment currently engaged in dredging,

Minister wants linkages deepened
If
St. Lucia is to grow and the economy to become less vulnerable
to external shocks, there is need to deepen the level of domestic
linkages between the various productive sectors.
Guy Mayers, Minister for Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer
Affairs made this point at Wednesday’s executive luncheon
of the St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce,

Crime
on the decline
According
to St Lucia Police, there have been apparent reductions in
crime across the island as it relates to murder and sexual
offences. A police report indicates that the number
of murders have decreased from 39 to 26 while sexual offences
reduced from 230 to 227. The confiscation of drugs from Marijuana
and Cocaine has increased from 462 to 568.
Air
Jamaica suspends St. Lucia service
Air
Jamaica is suspending its current thrice weekly service to
the island of St. Lucia, effective April 1, 2008.
Paul Pennicook, Air Jamaica’s Senior Vice President
of Marketing and Sales, explained that the carrier was forced
to make the difficult decision because of its corporate restructuring,
which entails streamlining and route rationalization.
