A history of repeated external and domestic shocks
has made economic insecurity a major concern across the region.
Of particular concern to all households, especially the poorest
segments of the population, is the exposure to shocks that
are generated by catastrophic events or natural disasters.

St.
Lucia Jazz 2008 – Raising the Quality
Raising
the quality of St. Lucia Jazz has been a perennial item on
the agenda of the organizers of the event therefore it came
as no surprise when Tourism Minister Allen Chastenet, at
the media launch of the event Tuesday night, spoke of the
event moving through a transition, the idea behind it, he
said, was to raise the quality. This year a couple of subtle
changes and some not so subtle,

Rodney Bay Marina welcomes ship registry
Rodney
Bay Marina has welcomed plans by the government to establish
a Ship Registry in St Lucia saying such a move will have huge
benefits for the island. General Manager of the Marina,
Cuthbert Didier said a Ship Registry could put St. Lucia on
the map in terms of maritime business. Further, if St Lucia
could explore the possibility of a marriage between offshore
banking and a yacht registry, 
Peace
Corps and HIV Training
A
group of twenty two Peace Corps Volunteers and their local
counterparts from across the OECS participated in a three-day
HIV Prevention Among Young People Training organized and hosted
by Peace Corps/Eastern Caribbean. The February 5-
7 activity which took place in St. Lucia was sponsored by
the US President’s Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR).

He
may not have won the crown at the International Soca Monarch
competition in Trinidad which was held last Friday February
1st, but what St. Lucian Soca artist Ricky T has won himself
is a whole lot of respect as a serious performer and a legion
of fans all over the world. And this week several
agencies including the CDF, Take Over Tent,
“Tes’De
Luv”- Valentine’s Day outreach and campaign
St
Lucians are invited to take advantage of free confidential
HIV counseling and testing in Castries, Vieux Fort and Soufriere
on Valentine’s Day, Thursday 14th February.
Testing is key to the prevention of HIV and AIDS. It is through
testing that people get to know their HIV status. And, knowing
your status empowers you to protect yourself and your loved
ones if you are negative, 
This
New Breed Can’t Stay
The
Forestry and Environmental Wildlife officials are in a tizzy
over a new breed of Iguana. According to officials,
the unknown species will prove disastrous to our already dwindling
Iguana population and they are not about to take that lying
down. The invading reptile which measures approximately one
and a half to six feet in length has been spotted in the vicinity
of the Soufriere River,
