UK Arrival Increase
Preliminary
figures released by the St Lucia Tourist Board show, the number
of stopover tourists (visitors staying 24 hours or more) arriving
from the United Kingdom, increased by 2% in July 2008 to 7,060
visitors, compared with the 6,932 visitors who arrived
from the UK in July 2007. The overall number of stopover visitors
arriving this July in St Lucia declined slightly,

planned meeting tomorrow by the full membership of the St.
Lucia Teachers Union at the Civil Service Center at Sans Soucis
could result in a rough start to the new school year that
begins on Monday. However the Union’s leadership
is trying hard to avoid a disruption to the new school year,

Two
years ago a St Lucian was arrested and charged with forging
four government documents, possession of two false documents
and a false rubber stamp. The preliminary inquiry
continued Wednesday with the investigating officer’s
evidence. The prosecution claims that the alleged forged documents
where used by two other St Lucians,

New President looks to the Future
The
St. Lucia Seamen, Waterfront and General Workers Trade Union
has a new president at its helm. At an executive
meeting held last week Monday, Esther St. Marie was elected
to fill the post of president. Her tenure officially takes
effect as of September 1, 2008. St. Marie, who joined the
union in October, 2006, as a mobilizer/organizer,
