Talk Shows
The
objective of the show was to examine the possible effects
of the privatization of St. Lucia’s water service. Both
Sandra Messiah and Flavia Cherry opposed the very idea that
such an important basic, pertinent service should be placed
in the hands of the private sector. Messiah argued that the
government is trying to convince the public that the only
solution is to privatize WASCO, 
“Fighting
HIV/AIDS through Character Building”
“Should
we have sex before marriage?” was the topic of the day.
This question opened a very lively and heated debate; it was
so passionate that Gower Aimable and Addie Abbott, two of
the facilitators, had a hard time trying to ensure that the
verbal exchanges remained respectful and peaceful. This group
discussion was part of the morning programme, 
For
the Love of Children
It
was the author Phyllis Dryden who penned, “Life, love,
and laughter - what priceless gifts to give our children.”
Perhaps her passion to help underprivileged and
disadvantaged children does not extend to building a Home
for Kids of her own, but she would surely like to reach out
to those with the time and the patience to do so. And she
hopes that her gifts will indeed bring some joy,

He
had a passion for the game of tennis, loved playing the organ
and possessed an encyclopedic and comprehensive knowledge
of the law that no one in the legal fraternity here could
deny. And when the history of St. Lucia’s legal
development is documented it would certainly reflect his significant

St.
Lucia Gets New ARC Contract
St.
Lucia has been given a new contract to continue hosting the
annual Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) up to 2012.Mr.
Cuthbert Didier, the General Manager of the Rodney Bay Marina,
the termination point for the rally since 1990, announcing
the extension, said the contract was being reviewed by the
St. Lucia Tourist Board and marina owners,

Scholarship for children on staff
Cable
& Wireless has awarded three secondary school scholarships
to the children of staff members for the 2008-2009 school
year. At a presentation held at Cable & Wireless
Corinth on Thursday, Antonio Deterville, son of Celia Deterville,
Karyl Cyril son of Junius Charles and Maryanna Desmangles
daughter of Mitch Phillips all received scholarships, 
Vieux-Fort
comes out for CSN
On
Thursday August 14th the people of Vieux-Fort came out in
large numbers to all activities hosted by the Civil Society
Network of St. Lucia. The people of Vieux-Fort are
not easily motivated to attend public meetings but I sensed
early in the day that things were going to be different. I

Springer Launches New Book
A
new book chronicling some of the most poignant articles penned
by Cletus Springer was launched last Friday. At an
official launching held in the Conference Room of the National
Insurance Corporation, the author also used the occasion to
launch The Impact Foundation: The Emmanuel and Una Springer
Memorial Foundation.
