Who
will be the next Digicel Rising Star? Ten persons from St.
Lucia are in with a chance to become the next Digicel Rising
Star following auditions on the weekend at the Bay Gardens
Hotel. Over seventy persons turned up for auditions
on Saturday with forty – two chosen to face judges Rick
Wayne, Nicole David, and Russel Lake on Sunday.

Senator
Nicholas Frederick yesterday, via a spokesperson
from his office, said that he will make a statement regarding
the concessions granted to Tuxedo Villas by the Cabinet of
Ministers that included a house in Bonne Terre said to be
the home of Health Minister Keith Mondesir. The above, which
is the latest information in the chain of events surrounding
the controversial decision,

B’day Celebrations Commence Tomorrow
Activities
to mark the 121st birthday celebrations of Marcus Mosiah Garvey
will officially begin tomorrow with a diverse roster of events.
At a press briefing held at the Cultural Development Foundation
on Monday last, representatives from three Rastafarian organizations
apprised the media of the schedule for this year’s itinerary.

Road for Morne Le Croix Residents
Following the announcement of a major renovation project at
The Jalousie Plantation in Soufriere next year, the neighboring
community have already benefited from the hotel’s future
plans. The Morne Le Croix communities have seen a
gradual deterioration of their road over many years and were
left with little choice but to request access through the
Jalousie hotel grounds, 
LIAT
announces new arrangement with Carib Aviation
In
July 2008, LIAT suspended its relationship with Carib Aviation
pending the resolution of a number of operational and administrative
issues. Following extensive talks between the two
carriers, it has been agreed that from 14th August 2008 the
existing code share and wet-lease arrangements will be terminated
but a new arrangement will be entered into,

Society hosts public meeting in Vieux Fort
The
Civil Society Network of St. Lucia is moving full steam ahead
with its campaign against the privatization of water and this
week a series of activities have been planned to culminate
with a Public Meeting at the Phillip Marcellin Stadium on
New Dock Road in Vieux-Fort from 7:30pm on Thursday August
14th 2008.

Council. Oftentimes we forget that they enhance our
quality of life by maintaining the aesthetics and sanitary
conditions of our environment and we have the tendency to
turn up our noses at them. Many of the general public regard
them as mere street sweepers,

Lucian to Head Global AIDS Program
The
US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta
has appointed Dr Earl Long as Chief for the new South Africa
Global AIDS Program, Laboratory Branch. Dr Long,
who presently resides in Atlanta, Georgia, will be moving
to Pretoria, South Africa, in October of this year. The new
facility will assist the South African government in providing
training,
