Religious
Harassment and persecution
With
the opening ceremony over and the Olympic Games well on the
way; we can see the joy on those athletes’ faces that
have so far won medals. Michael Phelps for example
had a beam right across his face when he won the individual
medley in the swimming competition. He had an even bigger
one when his team won 100yds team relay beating their adversary
by the shortest of margins,
Eminent
regional trade unionist to deliver lecture at Sir George Charles
Memorial Dinner
On
the occasions of the birth date, anniversary of the passing
of Sir George Frederick Lawrence Charles, Father of Saint
Lucia’s decolonization and multidimensional leader of
workers’ rights in the middle decades of the last century,
as well as the universal observation of August as
Emancipation Month, the George Charles Foundation will be
hosting a dinner/lecture,
The
Concessions Granted to Tuxedo Villas
Politicians
in St. Lucia will never learn, but what is most sad is that
St. Lucians, the people who put those politicians in power
are worse than the politicians. They too, will never
learn. They accept everything and anything said by a politician,
they refuse to question a politician, more so if that politician
is a member of the political party they support.
Inquiry
must be independent, says SLP
Information
reaching the Saint Lucia Labour Party indicates that the Attorney
General of Saint Lucia, Senator Nicholas Frederick, proposes
to carry out what he has described as “an inquiry”
into the legality of Cabinet’s decision to
qualify a private residence at Bonne Terre for concessions
granted to Tuxedo Villas, a property in which Minister Keith
Mondesir has interest.
SLP
calls on PM King to reverse the decision
As
the Political Leader of the St Lucia Labour Party said last
Thursday August 8, the decision of the Government of St Lucia
to reject the offer of assistance to apprehend persons involved
in the drug trade is both surprising and disturbing.
There can be no doubt that the pursuit of such persons must
no be a No. 1 priority for Caribbean governments,
Nip
Dictatorship in the Bud!
Few
St Lucians may recall the Idi Amin period in Uganda, but some
of us will and those of us who do will recall the ignorance,
brutality and international disgrace inflicted upon Uganda,
especially to the raid by Israel to rescue some 200
Israelis detained at that country’s Entebbe Airport.
It is indeed quite factual that we have the DNA of our ancestors,

Watchmen
to be paid
The
Ministry of Education & Culture, through its permanent
Secretary, Dr. Rufina Frederick, has informed the
National Workers Union in a letter received on August 11,
2008 that all outstanding wages due to watchmen represented
by the National Workers Union for the period October 2007
to February 2008 will be added to the August monthly wages
of the said watchmen.
Be
Aware of the EPA
Currently,
the signing of St Lucia to the European Partnership Agreement
is of utmost significance and will ultimately determine whether
St Lucia sinks or swims as far as the policies on the trading
of Goods and Services and integration is concerned. The
general public is not too familiar with what the EPA really
means much less what the signing of the deal means to St Lucia.
