In
the Caribbean every year we celebrate Emancipation Day. We
go through the motions as if to satisfy some deep need within
us to prove that we are free. Some of us celebrate
that day of the abolition of slavery on August 1st, others
do so on the first Monday of that month and still some of
us celebrate during our carnivals.

Making is Paramount in a Leader
Over
the last year and a half stock markets have been in turmoil
due to the price of oil rising sharply and almost beyond control.
We have all witnessed that oil has risen from 37
U.S. Dollars a barrel to a record high of U.S.147 dollars
a barrel. At present it is fluctuating between 123 and 127
dollars a barrel, no one knows how high it will rise.

Phone Robbery
I
have always blamed Cable & Wireless and Digicel for the
rash of mobile robberies, the number of which erupted along
with the explosion of mobile phones in Saint Lucia. Last
week, with news of the recovery of a cache of stolen items
(including a number of expensive cell phones), by the Gros
Islet police, the topic was on everyone’s tongue. 
SLP
considers Legal Action
The
Saint Lucia Labour Party is considering legal action against
the Government of Saint Lucia for its decision to include
a private residence of Keith Mondesir as part of Tuxedo Villas
to qualify it for concessions. This decision, says
the SLP, is illegal because it was taken to prevent the Customs
Department from taking legal action against Keith Mondesir,
