LOC concludes volunteer training

The Cricket World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC) will stage a full simulation today as it wraps up volunteer training for the massive event. The third largest sporting event in the world, CWC will be held across seven Caribbean nations in March and April.
More than one hundred thousand persons are expected to descend on the region in the next few weeks to watch sixteen teams compete for one of the most prestigious prizes in sport. The event begins with an opening ceremony in Jamaica on March 11.

Micoud residents to be evicted

The Government of St. Lucia is being called upon to intervene in a situation in New Extension South, Micoud where about 40 households were asked to vacate the land they are on.
The VOICE has been able to ascertain that those households have been served notices of eviction effective May 1st, 2007.

Shell Attendants Rewarded

SOL EC Ltd, agents in St. Lucia for Shell fuels and lubricants this week presented rewards to Phillip Leon of Jn Marie & Sons, Eustace Ferdinand of Shell Morne, Lovander Placide of Laborie Service Station, and Marcie Damaze of Shell Bexon. They are the September, October, November and December 2006 winners respectively of the company’s Customer Service Quality Program (CSQP). Phillip is a repeat winner because he displays a consistent dedication to the service of all customers.

Police Force to go on offensive

The Royal St. Lucia Police Force may go on a nationwide offensive against criminals following its meeting with Prime Minister Sir John Compton earlier this week.
Sir John summoned the top brass of the Force to a meeting following the daylight assassination of a 29 year-old male on High Street, Tuesday morning, to discuss strategy in fighting criminals and crime of this magnitude.

Boulevard Fire

An early morning fire on the William Peter Boulevard has gutted the Y De Lima Building, causing untold damage to the businesses housed there.
Deputy Fire Chief Hilton Oculien says the call came in to the department around 5:15 a.m. Interviews during the day revealed that it may have been burning for some time before.

 

Doll Making Workshop for Persons with Disabilities

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Commerce in collaboration with the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities hosted a five day product development workshop on the design, manufacture and marketing of dolls at the Vieux Fort Town Hall from February 26 to March 02, 2007 from 9:00 – 3:00 pm. The workshop targetted 25 persons with disabilities and their Caregivers.

A Perfect Hyperbaric Facility

For more than a decade there have been futile attempts to establish a hyperbaric facility in Saint Lucia, but through a donation of over $535,000.00 by Ms. Barbara Perfect, an American national and keen scuba diver, who recently purchased a villa at the Jalousie Plantation Resort and her sister, this is going to change soon.
