The
Significance of the Lord’s Supper New Testament and
Passover Old Testament
It is very important
that we as children of God observe the Lord’s Supper
(Old Testament Passover. Many people are aware of this practice
and do it but are not aware as to why they do. Matthew chapter
26 verses 26-28 reads “And as they were eating, Jesus
took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the
disciples, and said take, eat; this is my body. And he took
the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them saying, drink
ye all of it: For this is my blood of the New Testament, which
is shared for many for the remission of sins.” Jesus
is the Passover lamb which was sacrificed so that we could
receive forgiveness and pardon from God for our sins. John
1:29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him,
and saith, Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin
of the world. Revelation 5:9 reads “And they sung a
new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to
open the seals thereof: for thou was slain, and hast redeemed
us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and
people and nation.” And in return for his great love
towards us we must observe the Lord’s supper in its
appointed time and season. Luke 2 verse 41 “Now his
parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover.
It is clearly stated in the scriptures that the Lord’s
Supper is observed once a year and not multiple times as some
have misinterpreted the scriptures. Deuteronomy tells which
time is the season of the Lord’s Supper/ Passover which
has never been changed throughout the scriptures. Deuteronomy
16:1and 2 “Observe the month Abib, and keep the Passover
unto the Lord thy God: for in the month of Abib the Lord thy
God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night. But at the place
which the Lord thy God shall choose to place his name in,
there shall thou sacrifice the Passover at even, at the going
down of the sun, at the season that thou camest forth out
of Egypt.” The Lord’s Supper is observed on the
fourteenth of Abib at evening. This is the right time to observe
the supper it is written, and all contrary practices are false.
They cannot be supported with biblical proof and regardless
of this fact people continue to abound in such falsehood.
Some observed the Lord’s Supper at full moon, others
everyday at noon time, some once a month, every quarter and
the list goes on. In Deuteronomy it is stated that the Lord’s
Supper served to remind the Israelites of the night when God
delivered them from the Egyptians and brought them out of
Egypt.
The customs of the Passover which were changed when Jesus
and his disciples observed the Lord’s Supper are the
killing of the then sacrificial lamb and eating bitter herbs.
Exodus chapter 12 explains in much detail how the Passover
was observed. Exodus 12:1-20 reads “And the Lord spake
unto Moses and Aaron in the Land of Egypt, saying, this month
shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the
first month of the year to you. Speak ye unto all the congregation
of Israel, saying, in the tenth day of this month they shall
take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their
fathers, a lamb for an house: and if the household be too
little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his
house take it according unto the number of the souls; every
man according to his eating shall make your count for the
lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first
year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
and ye shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same
month: and the whole assembly of the congregation shall kill
it in the evening.” The lamb spoken of represents Jesus
who was later crucified in the New Testament and hence the
reason why we do not kill a sheep for the Passover.
To be continued in next weekend’s article. Have a blessed
weekend and follow God’s words as it is written and
not how we feel to.
