timely reminder - Manners Maketh Man!!
The Right Honourable Sir John
Compton, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia in his 28th Anniversary
of Independence Message to the Nation, exhorted St. Lucians
to remember to say PLEASE and THANK YOU! He said “The
words ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ seem
to have disappeared from our vocabulary”. Manners maketh
Man is a statement with much depth. When a nation can boast
of mannerly citizens, it will achieve excellence in service
that will be the envy of others. This is very important, especially
when visitors to its shores expect the type of service that
will produce memories that last a lifetime.
I am particularly impressed with the theme that was chosen
for the Independence Anniversary celebrations, “Rising
To The Global Challenges”. If we are to meet the challenges
head on, Innovation and Technology will have to be placed
high on the economic agenda. I sense that our Prime Minister
has set in motion the stage for moving the process forward.
His message conveys many lessons that need to be learnt in

The private sector is up beat at this time as they look forward
to the heightened activities of CWC 2007 and St. Lucia Jazz.
The St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture
should be very pleased at the attendance at its Business Mixer
which was hosted at the Auberge Seraphine, Point Seraphine
on Tuesday, 27th February, 2007. Member companies which took
the opportunity to introduce their products and services included
ACCELA Marketing, St. Lucia Distillers Ltd., Bank of St. Lucia
and Renwick & Co. Ltd. The programme was graced with the
presence of Ministers of Government, Professionals, Bankers,
Business Executives and Entrepreneurs. It was a great networking
experience.
St. Lucia continues to hold its own as the Conference Destination
of the Eastern Caribbean and I should include the Party Destination
as well. I cannot over-emphasise the point that St. Lucia
has truly taken its place as an ideal destination for Business,
Pleasure and Retirement in the Caribbean. The Real Estate
Agents are gearing up to transform the Paradise that is ours
into a real business haven over the next three months. How
do you feel about being resident in St. Lucia at this time?
I can’t believe what is unfolding before my eyes. It
is just a period of great expectations. As I mentioned in
an earlier article, it is our moment to shine, and shine we
will!
I am always seeking to assure myself about our readiness to
host CWC2007 with every passing day as I get to understand
what is at play in this massive project. Most important is
that if we get the St. Lucia Jazz numbers in the preliminary
matches, we can manage that. That’s the easy part but
when we double those numbers, we are treading in dangerous
waters but don’t worry, we are going to be OK because
we have expanded the space with the cruise ships that will
be here for the Semi Finals. The cruise ships will assist
with the accommodation and the food. The ships will also ease
overcrowding on land. So I am feeling much better now, we
are only over booked on land for one or two nights but the
cruise ships will take care of that. Can you imagine Rodney
Bay on the evening of April 27 & 28, 2007. My heart is
beating very fast. I feel the excitement even now. Just picture
the situation, what a moment in time? Do plan to enjoy every
moment, get out and mingle in the crowd. There will never
be a second chance for many of us to savour such an experience
in St. Lucia!
