$50,000.00
youth entrepreneurship program launches Thursday
Gajadhar says he’s
‘investing today in tomorrow’s business
persons’

A
popular local businessman will later this week
launch a major program aimed at identifying
and developing a new generation of future entrepreneurs
for St. Lucia.
On Thursday January 7, Managing Director of
CIE and CEO of the RG Group of Companies, Rayneau
Gajadhar, will officiate at a Press Launch of
the project unveiled by his company called Discovering
Entrepreneurs -- Generation Next (Gen X).
Unveiled at the opening of the current school
term last September, the Gen X program is aimed
at encouraging young persons, between the ages
of 18 and 34, to “think outside the box”
and come up with creative ideas for projects
that can make them and/or their communities
self-sustainable.

Mr Gajadhar,
who has allocated an initial sum of $50,000.00
to the program, says it aims to identify ten
projects for support and funding over an initial
period to transform them from ideas to reality.
It will be an annual program in which qualifying
projects will be selected by a team of judges
and the selected projects will qualify for
funding, training and business development
guidance.
“We are receiving a positive response
and much encouragement, with many applications
and indications of interest from young persons
around the island who are already submitting
or coming in to our offices with business
plans and project ideas,” he says.
“In addition,” he adds, “we
are in touch with several private and public
sector agencies, government ministries and
departments, non-governmental organizations,
teachers and students across the country.”
Mr Gajadhar says he undertook this project
“because we need to invest in changing
the business environment for the future and
the best time to start is today.”
The Gen X project will be launched at the
NIC Conference Centre in Castries on Thursday,
January 7, 2010 at 10.30am and the entire
media has been invited, along with several
specially invited guests from many local public
and private sector entities.
Gen X follows the successful Stimulus Package
program launched by Mr. Gajadhar last year,
which resulted in the price of building materials
being drastically reduced island=wide during
and since the six-month period it lasted.
