Guests Of Windjammer Landing Make A Donation Of Educational Supplies To The Grand Riviere Primary School

On Thursday February 4th, 2010, the Grande Riviere Combined School received a donation of an XO computer, educational supplies and stationary from Karen & Michael Mayers, two guests of the Windjammer Landing Beach, Resort & Spa.
The donation, Michael explained, was their small way of contributing to the educational landscape and development of primary school students, here on the island.
Michael Mayers, a paramedic by profession and one who also teaches paramedics at the Ulster Country Community College in Upstate New York, SUNY, (where both he and his wife Karen live) said he hoped the items, (particularly the computer) help the school achieve some of its goals.
His wife Karen, (Realtor, Proprietor and Graphic Designer) said that though this was their first time to the island, it definitely would not be their last because their stay on the island had so far been an unforgettable experience.

A very appreciative Mrs. Meniva Giala, the School’s Principal, during the handing over ceremony expressed this gesture as an act of kindness that will go a long way in assisting with the academic development of the students. She also thanked the officials of the Windjammer Landing for their overwhelming and continuous support, since 1999.
Since the school’s adoption in 1999, Windjammer has been very instrumental in providing assistance to the school for its Annual Award Ceremony, where students are rewarded for various academic performances. Windjammer Resort has also supported a number of educational advancement programmes, undertaken by the school and as an added incentive to the school, offers students the opportunity to spend time at the resort in an attempt to help them better appreciate the hospitality industry and understand its economic benefits to the island.
