MICOUD emerged champions of the 2016 St. Lucia Football Association’s Fantasy Cup which concluded this past Saturday evening at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds with the staging of the tournament’s Grand Final.

Before a capacity crowd of over 1500 football fans, Micoud became champions with a 4 – 2 win over their final opponent Marchand in a penalty shootout.

With the scores locked at the half-time whistle despite several scoring opportunities on either side it was all to play for going into the second half.

Marchand was awarded a penalty when their Captain No.14 Lincoln Phillip was foul in the area by Micoud No.14 Andre Joseph; Phillip took the responsibility as captain in taking the penalty which he slotted home successfully in the 57th minute.

This was all Marchand needed as they piled on the pressure on the eastern team, but with time running out on the clock it was pay back time for Micoud when according to the Referee, Marchand’s No.16 Andrus Remy committed a cardinal sin when he handled the ball in the penalty area.

Like Lincoln Phillip, Micoud No.10 KyranMarcellin hit home successfully for the much deserved equalizer and to the delight of the Micoud fans.

Micoud took home the Fantasy Cup and 18 Gold Medals. Marchand won the second place trophy and silver medals.

Meanwhile, Micoud Coach Cornelius Butcher who continued where he left off last year when he won the Blackheart title said, “I am a happy man this evening, Marchand played well, but we never gave up as our fans kept on cheering us on for the equalizer”.

Butcher said he knew once it ended 1 – 1 at regulation time there was no way Marchand would have won because Micoud had a reliable goalkeeper in the person of Noah Didier and he proved it when he saved the fourth penalty for us.

The MVP of the final went to Didier who made a remarkable save during the penalty shootout to deny Marchand any chance of lifting the conveted tittle.
