This Year’s Budget $1.4 billion

PRIME Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony will on Tuesday present the 2015/2016 Estimates of Expenditure, expected to be in the region of $1.4 billion, $200,000 more than last year’s.

The presentation will be made at a meeting of the House of Assembly’s Standing Finance Committee.

This new session of parliament starts at 10:00 in the morning with the first meeting of the House of Assembly followed 30 minutes later by the first meeting of the Senate. Governor General Dame PearletteLouisy is expected to make an appearance at 10:50 for the Inspection of the Guard. At 11:00 o’clock she is expected to address a joint sitting of parliament when she delivers the Throne Speech.

The debate on the Estimates will begin the following day and end on Thursday.

There will be another “bite of the cherry” when the House of Assembly meets May 12. This is when the Appropriation Bill will be tabled in the House and the Prime Minister delivers the budget statement.

The debate on the Appropriation Bill will commence two days later on May 14 and is expected to end the next day.
